Where to buy cheap plus size clothes (and how to get a discount)

If you’re over a size 16, shopping gets complicated. Finding good quality and/or fashionable cheap plus size clothes can be a nightmare and annoyingly, you have to pay more for what you do find.

Thank god for the internet eh?! because there are more plus size options than ever before (I remember the days of having to shop in the high-street *shudder*).

Cheap plus size clothes

So here is the list of my favourite plus size stores and how you can get a discount:

ASOS CURVE

Cheap plus size clothes

For me, ASOS Curve has the best plus size selection – going up to a size 30. The sizing is pretty spot on, but I do think quality can be a bit up and down. As well as the Curve selection, ASOS carries other plus size clothing including Coast Plus, Elvi, Junarose and Pink Clove.

I personally pay extra for Premier Delivery which is £9.95 for the year , which means you can order a load of stuff, get it delivered the next day (because it’s not easy for plus sized people to just pick up something to wear quickly), try it on in your own time and return everything you don’t want.

Discounts:

You can ALWAYS get 10% off full-priced items at ASOS if you have an NUS card (not a student? Doesn’t matter, here’s how you can get one). This is sometimes boosted to 20%.

Make sure you sign up for the newsletter, because on your birthday you’ll get an exclusive ASOS discount code which from my experience has either been 20%, but more recently 15% off.

There is also a loyalty scheme called ASOS A-list, which works alongside the student discount. You earn five points per £1, and you need 500 points to get a £5 voucher.

Joanie

cheap plus size clothes

When it comes to cheap plus size clothes, Joanie is a new find for me and I’m actually obsessed. The clothes are vintage inspired and range from a size 8 – 22. For me, the clothes are bold and a million miles away from those ugly smocks that plus size brands like to throw at you.

The dresses are super cute and I love the slogan jumpers and sweaters. Have a look at its website, because I’ve noticed lots of celebs and Instagrammers etc are wearing their clothes a lot – you’ll probably recognise some of the pieces.

There’s free delivery when you spend over £60 or £4 for standard delivery.

Discounts:

Scroll to the bottom of the page, sign up to its newsletter and you’ll get 10% off your first order – but on full priced items only. There’s an expiry too, so don’t sign up until you’re ready to buy.

Joanie has quite a few sales through the year (including the current 50% off one), and helpfully an offers page which tells you if you can get any discounts at all.

Navabi

Cheap plus size clothes

Navabi is all about classic styles and really well-made clothes that go up to a size 36. The clothes really aren’t cheap but are luxurious and the quality is on-point, so a piece will last you a long time.

I particularly like the blogger/model collaborations (such as Bethany Rutter’s), which have my favourite and more affordable pieces.

I have this denim stress that cost a few bob (about £80), but I have worn to death, is super comfortable and I get compliments all the time when I wear it. It’s good value when you think of cost per wear I suppose.

Discounts:

By signing up to the Navabi website (a box should pop up with the option to sign up), and you’ll get a 15% off code to use on your first order.

I’m a big fan of the sale because its there I can afford to buy the clothes (though there is stuff for £15 – I’m being a bit dramatic, but go and have a look, you’ll see what I mean).

There are usually vouchers for Navabi, a quick look now you can get a 20% off voucher from Vouchercodes.

Studio 8 by Phase Eight

Cheap Plus Size Clothes

Another plus size brand I’ve just discovered and I LOVE is Studio 8 and can’t wait to buy some items. I’ve spent the last few days scrolling through their website, loving all their clothes. I love Phase Eight too, but it was frustrating only being able to wear some of their items, so this is ticking all the boxes for me.

It’s particularly good for work and occasionwear and there are about 10 things *I need*. Just like Phase 8, the items aren’t super cheap, but they come with better quality. But with some discounts, you can make them more affordable.

There’s free delivery when you spend over £50 or its £2.95.

Discounts:

I’ve had a look for discount codes online and I didn’t come up with anything. I am new to the brand though, so I haven’t been looking for long. Please do let me know if you have been able to find discount codes in the past.

It does have sales though, which is where I will be lingering. From the time of writing this there is a dress that was £160, but now £48, a top that was £65 and now £19 and a top that was £75 and is now £22.

Violetta – Mango’s plus size range

Cheap plus size clothes

Yes! Yes! Yes! Mango has a plus size range and it is bloody beautiful. I’ve not bought anything myself (though have come so close to spending too much too many times), but I’m assuming the plus size range is the same quality as Mango which is lovely.

The clothes are classically cut, stylish and aimed at a slightly older shoppers (like me!).

Delivery is free when you spend £30.

Discounts:

So I’ve never seen a discount code for Violetta, but if you’ve ever spotted one, let me know.

That said, you can get 10% off full priced items when you sign up for its newsletter.

Plus, there are always offers, as well as a stonkingly good sale.

New Look Inspire

Cheap plus size clothes

New Look has had one of the oldest cheap plus size clothes sections I can remember. It was one of the only places you could buy fashionable plus size clothes back in the day. New Look is cheap too – and you can get some items ridiculously cheap in the sale if you wait for the 70% sale.

Discounts:

When you sign up for the New Look newsletter, you’ll be given a voucher code you can use on your first shop. Right now, you get a whopping 30% off, so it’s really worth signing up.

You also get 10% off (sometimes 20% during promotions) if you use your student card. Again, if you’re not a student – no bother – here’s how EVERYONE can get a student card.

If you google ‘New Look discount code’, you likely find a load of discount codes you can use. Right now there’s a generic 10% off one, which is better than nothing!

River Island (RI Plus)

Cheap plus size clothes

River Island (RI Plus) is the newest high-street store going up to a size 18 – and it’s glorious. You know how some stores have great clothes and then the plus size section is shocking (looking at you H&M)? The River Island plus size section is just as nice, and just as fashionable as the standard size section.

Discounts:

The student discount is really generous at River Island, offering you 20% off on full priced items when you flash your card/or enter your NUS number (here’s how you get a student card if you’re not a student).

It’s a new section, and I’ve not seen any general voucher codes yet – but they do internal promotions all the time, such as 30% off coats etc. And of course, the sale is stonkingly good.

I’ve found that when I’ve bought something, there are discount vouchers in my package. And now that I’ve bought items, more and more come into my inbox.

Simply Be

cheap plus size clothes

I used to avoid Simply Be, thinking the clothes were old fashioned and the site was too busy (which it still is). However, recently I’ve noticed its selling absolutely stunning plus sized items (especially pretty going out dresses and sports outfits) going up to a size 34. I think the quality of the clothes is brilliant and I have a dress designed by Claire from Steps which I ALWAYS get compliments for. I think Simply Be understands plus sized bodies a bit better than other brands.

Discounts:

There always seems to be some sort of sale running, so you can get discounted items and nine times out of 10 there is a voucher code on Vouchercodes. Right now there’s 10% off your first spend and free delivery for SimplyBe newbies.

Boohoo Plus

cuckoo down farm

Boohoo Plus I reckon has the biggest plus size range going and I am yet to not see a discount on there. It’s amazing.

It’s properly fashion forward too (a lot of it scares me!), with plenty of crop tops, cycling shorts, bodysuits – all that kind of stuff.

Did I mention it’s cheap too? You’d be hard-pressed to find anything over £30 (ish)

Discounts:

You get 20% student discount at Boohoo (not got a student card, I have you covered).

Like I said, there is always a 20% off or free delivery code on the site (with usually a countdown to panic you into buying), so there’s always a discount to be had when shopping at Boohoo.

Missguided

Cheap plus sized clothes

Want some super cheap plus size clothes, Missguided is the place for you. It’s another store that I think it interchangeable with Boohoo. It’s super stylish, the quality is ok-ish and it is incredibly cheap.

Delivery is free if you spend over £30, or £3.99.

Discounts:

If you’re a student with a Unidays account (not NUS card), you can get a discount. It’s 30% off at time of writing.

That said, if you’re not a student, don’t worry – there is ALWAYS a discount or offer on the site. Make sure to check the big voucher sites though just in case there are better ones.

Gap

Cheap plus size clothes

The Gap doesn’t have it’s own specific plus size range, but the clothes do go up to a size 22 so works for a lot of plus size people. Personally, I’ve never had much luck with the fitted shirts, but loose things like skirts and dresses are pretty true to size.

Gap’s quality is pretty good, there’s ALWAYS a discount code available (I wait for the 40% and 50% ones to come by). You can pick up a lot of classic pieces here which you can jazz up at other places. You know, Gap is Gap.

Discounts:

If you sign up to Gap’s newsletter, you’ll be able to get a 20% discount voucher, but to be honest, there’s usually a bigger discount to be had either promoted on the site or on Vouchercodes etc.

Evans

Image result for evans clothes

Evans used to be the king of plus size shopping right? However, it got old fashioned and ugly fast… but lately, it has had some amazing collections which are fashion-forward and young – up to a size 32.

Brands you can buy are Curvy Kate (stunning underwear) and Gemma Collins which believe it or not, she has designed some really beautiful things. Like, kaftans and long dresses you’d wear in Marbs!

Discounts:

Evans doesn’t discount a lot but does run voucher promotions now and then. Right now for example (at time of writing anyway) you can get 20% off everything.

Cheap plus size clothes at supermarkets

Some of my favourite places to get plus size clothes are at the supermarket. I’ve not mentioned them down below because they don’t have a full-time collection, but don’t rule out Aldi and Lidl who often bring in clothing ranges that go above a size 20.

Asda

I. Bloody. Love. Asda. I particularly like its underwear and whenever I go back to Swansea go and browse the big store for plus size clothes that go up to a 24.

You can shop online or go in-store. I’ve never seen any discounts, but there are often offers and of course your standard sales.

Sainsbury’s Tu

I really love Sainsbury’s Tu (especially the leggings which are the best ones I’ve ever found by a long way!). Clothes are online and in-store and typically go up to a size 22. Delivery is £3.95 or you can pick up in store for free.

There’s a 20% off discount a few times a year which people get super hyped for, as well as your standard sales.

Morrison’s Nutmeg

You can’t buy Morrison’s clothing brand Nutmeg online (annoyingly), so will have to go into your local store. Items are a proper bargain and go up to a size 22.

These are my favourite brands that specialise in cheap plus size clothes, but have I missed any out? Any money saving tricks? Let me know in the comments.
